The Doldrums Book One by Nicholas Gannon

After finishing my big epic Australian chunkster on the weekend, I haven't been able to settle to anything else....except some lighter children's fiction.

Which is particularly handy for my work right now. Most of our customers want reading recommendations for all the children in their family (and that difficult to buy for uncle!)

So I love it when authors, illustrators and publishers come together to produce beautiful editions of books like The Doldrums.

Solid and beautiful, this hardback book comes complete with lovely generous pages, glossy coloured plates and a dust jacket that is a work of art and part of the story.

The Doldrums is the story of Archer B Helmsley - a boy with adventure in his heart and daydreams in his eyes.

His adventurous grandparents have gone missing on an iceberg and his very un-adventerous mother is keeping a very close eye on him at all times.

What follows is a heart-warming tale of friendship, imagination and polar bears.

Perfect for 10+ readers and a great read aloud chapter book for the whole family to enjoy. I hope the story of Archer B Helmsley develops into a series.

  1. I'm looking forward to this one too. I bought it knowing nothing of it because it looked so pretty.
